Application Process in New Zealand

New Zealand has been a great destination for foreign students for a long time, and the country’s universities are well known for their quality education. Therefore, it’s natural that a lot of people wish to come and study in New Zealand. The entire New Zealand educational system is taken from the prestigious British education system, which is considered as the best in the world. New Zealand’s universities offer many opportunities to execute research and internships, where scholars can build necessary skills, essential for their career and overall life.

Higher education offered by these universities is very well organized, it focus on policy examination, result oriented programmes and improved administrative management. Secondary education at school level proves to be a huge platform for under graduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies.

International students can get admission to New Zealand universities in the subsequent ways:

Applying for Admission: Bachelor's Degree Programme

  1. Clearing in their own country, a qualification exam, which is accepted in New Zealand equivalent to the New Zealand university entrance exam. 
  2. By completing secondary school in New Zealand and clearing the university entrance standard exam.
  3. By attending a foundation programme at a college in New Zealand.

English Language Requirements-

A score of 6.0 and higher in IELTS is necessary for admission at the first-year point. Another option is TOEFL (iBT) with lowest score 79-80. Every university will give details of their individual requirements.

For Admission to Post-Graduate Study

Graduation from a recognised university and other standard documents are needed for admission at this stage. 

English Language Requirements-

At least 6.5 in IELTS are required for entrance at the post-graduate level. TOEFL score of 90 to 100 is also sufficient.

  1. Completed application: Every college has its own application structure so you will need to fill the application form, accordingly. You can acquire these forms through the respective website, or thru a private agency.
  2. Academic documents: If you want to submit an application for an undergraduate course, you will need to supply your original GCSE and AS credential or certificate of a similar exam. If you are submitting your application, before you have finished your final examination then you are also required to provide a certified letter from your school or college declaring what you are likely to achieve in these exams. If you are submitting your form after your final grades then you will have to supply your original test score.
  3. Copy of passport: For applications in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, you will need to give a photocopy of the image page of your passport ID. This need not to be authorized.
  4. Personal statement/CV: A CV is not obligatory for making a form submission to a university, but it is suggested that you incorporate one as it gives you the chance to express to the assessing team why you should be considered for the admission. It also showcases your extra achievements in the field of art or sports.

Application Deadlines

Applications received after the deadline will be well thought-out on a case by case basis. You must be attentive that late applications may not be accepted by the Faculty and there may not be adequate time for pre-departure arrangements prior to the University start date.

Semester A (Late February – June): Closing date for applications is 1st of December of year before the start date.
Semester B (July – November): Closing date for applications is 1st of May.
